The City of Athens

This time my visit was to the city of Athens. Every one knows that the Athens is the capital and the largest city in Greece and the birth place of Socrates, Pericles, and Sophocles. It is said that Athens was the host city for hosting the first modern-day Olympic Games.

Well my first visit was to the Acropolis Honestly saying the view from Acropolis was simply Amazing. The only way to go there is by foot, i would suggest a good pair of walking shoes for any one going there. It is said that they used to worship the goddess "Athena" and there are three more temples build there "Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Temple of Nike".

A trip to National Archaeological Museum is worth a while. For museum junky they would never want come out of there. To get into the museum you need to pay 7 Euros. Try not to miss these.... The Museum's statue of a smiling Aphrodite preparing to slap a satyr with her sandal; the huge, enigmatically-smiling kouros statues, male Mona Lisa’s of their time; the clean clear lines of early Cycladic artifacts; the large, rich gold masks and ornaments from Mycenae.

Athens is a modern city apart from many multiplexes it also plays a variety of romantic, open air garden cinemas. The open air cinemas are pretty Awsm.

Kolonaki area which is at the base of Lycabettus hill the street is filled with boutiques, restaurants and also has galleries and museums. I myself brought some clothing... like people used to ware at those timings hehehehe.... Monastiraki Flea Market well I took some time off to check this place out. You can say that it is a huge open super market. I happen to visit this Flea market on a Sunday and I got to know that this is the best day. There are many small shops selling almost anything in couple of shops i have seen actual machine guns left over from Nazi occupation, but trust me they look more like a garden tools rather than guns. There are lots of stuff to check out here worry beads, furs, backgammon sets, toy soldiers, ancient Greek bottle openers and cigarette lighters, Byzantine Icons, paintings, statues, postcards, high fashion such as T-shirts, handbags with pictures of the Parthenon and so on... the list is very huge.... i my self bough a couple of lighters.... and they are damn good.

Taking a 20 min drive from downtown is one of the famous beaches "Glyfada" and a few miles more there is another beach called "Voula Beach". The beaches are amazing here the sands the waves and an amazing view of the sea are worth seeing. There are lots of water sports going on (ex:-surfing etc...) I tried to surf, but dint get the hang of it.

And after i have played with water for a while I visited “Lykavittos Hill” This is the highest place in Athens and it’s an amazing view over the entire city and can also see the landmarks like "Acropolis and Olympic stadium. I prefer to walk/hike the entire journey took me an hour to climb although it’s easy at the beginning of the hike; it is not so as easy as it goes on... but it is worth everything.

This was my trip to the city of Athens. The hotel were i stayed was "The Earl Percy Hotel" with a cheap accommodation.

The reason i was able to visit these many places was because the booking was done smoothly.
